Funding updates...

Sources of funding programmes are The Big Lottery Fund and J4B grant advisor


Financial assistance is available to groups living within 5 mile radius of Bristol Airport (including Winford, Wrington, Backwell, Brockley, Cleeve and Barrow Gurney) who require funding for projects that benefit the local community or environment.

Grant Available: £1,000 on average

The Fund supports projects in the following areas:
  • Initiatives to mitigate the impact of aircraft and ground noise on the local community which may include but not be limited to noise insulation for schools and homes in affected areas, the construction of additional noise insulation barriers and the funding of school trips;
  • The on-going improvement of transport infrastructure and services to and from Bristol Airport with an emphasis on reducing the impact of airport traffic in the community and villages surrounding the Airport which may include but not be limited to road improvements, public transport initiatives and measures to reduce community severance; and
  • Nature conservation, educational projects and sustainability initiatives in the locality of the Airport.

Clover Trust

The Clover Trust offers grants to charitable organisations in the UK.
The scheme is intended to support registered charities undertaking projects to help young people or older people.  In particular the scheme wishes to support small charities with low administrative costs. 

Grant Available: The trustees prefer to make regular donations to a comparatively small number of charities.

The Big Lottery Fund is backing the Green Space ‘Love Parks’ project. A scheme that will support vital green spaces that are at risk of decline due to funding cuts.  The project launches during ‘Love Parks week’ and aims to encourage people to organise and attend events during the first week of schools summer holidays (27 July – 4 August 2013). Big Lottery Fund (BIG) is awarding £416,450 to our ‘Love Parks’ project which will see a nationwide network of trained volunteers created to help conserve parks and green spaces up and down the country.

Individuals or groups between the ages of 13 and 25 can apply for, and run, a project to make changes to their communities. However, people of any age can get involved by becoming fans or members of the project in the UK.
Grant Available: £300 with training and support.  Projects that are invited to be taken further could get up to £2,500 cash for the project and other benefits.

Grants are available for not-for-profit organisations in the UK to assist with making a film that focuses on local community issues in 2013.

Grant Available: £720 to £2,200

The Community Film Unit is a social enterprise film company. Through its Speak Up Film Fund, it offers 50% match funding towards the cost of making a film.  The Speak Up Film Fund 2013 is open to application from not-for-profit organisations in the UK which need funding support to help make a film about one (or more) of the following:
  • Supporting young people and/or vulnerable people.
  • Preserving local history and educating residents about their area.
  • Providing and documenting opportunities for disabled people.
  • Providing information which improves the quality of life for residents in their local community.

The Coastal Communities Fund is to encourage the economic development of UK coastal communities by giving them funding to create sustainable economic growth and jobs. The Big Lottery Fund is delivering the CCF on behalf of Government, operating under the name Big Fund.

Grant Available: Over £50,000

Last year applications that demonstrated the following were prioritised:
  • Clear outputs which can be evidenced
  • Creation of jobs (particularly direct and indirect jobs within the project timescale)
  • Ability to deliver outcomes within the project timescale
  • Sustainability of activity and longer term impact.

Trusthouse gives grants for running costs or one-off capital costs to charities and not-for-profit organisations in accordance with criteria that are regularly reviewed and decided by the Trustees.
Grant Available: Up to £30,000

The grant committee focus on projects addressing Rural Issues and Urban Deprivation including:

Rural Deprivation
  • Projects providing transport for the elderly, disabled or disadvantaged.
  • Contact networks for the young disabled.
  • Projects which encourage a sense of community such as community centres and village halls.
  • Employment training schemes especially those promoting local, traditional crafts.
  • Projects addressing issues such as drug/alcohol misuse or homelessness.

Urban Deprivation
Applications are accepted from local or national charities or not-for-profit organisations which are working with residents of urban areas (ie more than 10,000 inhabitants) which are classified in the latest government Indices of Multiple Deprivation as being in the lowest 20%. For example, the Charity is interested in the following:
  • Youth clubs.
  • Training schemes to help people out of unemployment.
  • Drop in centres for the homeless.
