New inclusive sports clubs start in North Somerset

(Taken from Sport and Active Lifestyles Newsletter, October 2013)

Just over one year on from the close of the Paralympic Games, we are supporting local sports clubs, coaches and volunteers to develop new opportunities for disabled players, with a number of activities starting this autumn.

Our Sportarray initiative is using National Lottery funding from Sport England’s Inclusive Sport fund to offer training, publicity, networking, adapted equipment and volunteer support to local clubs to help increase participation by disabled people.

With a new Sportarray newsletter to connect local partners, sports clubs and players, and an inclusion-focused fourth edition of the Active Directory out now, local disabled people can find out about sports clubs that support inclusive provision. In addition, there are a number of club sessions that have started recently or will be beginning this autumn in North Somerset including:

South West Scorpions – wheelchair basketball
Taster sessions for disabled or non-disabled adults at Gordano School in Portishead on Sunday mornings. To book or to find out more call coach Kevin Ogborne on 07951 415 222 or email Kev@southwestwbc.com. For further information visit the South West Scorpions website.
