Funding opportunities

Dear readers

It’s been a busy old time here in Castlewood. We have written a proposal for the next phase of the Positive Activity and Local Commissioning Network project which we are hoping to share as soon as it has had leadership sign off. I hope you will take the time to read it when it is available.

As there has not been a post for a while, I have combined last weeks and this weeks funding opportunities – I hope there is something that suits you here. There are 8 grants, 2 for up to £1000, 3 for up to £5000 and 3 for £10,000 plus:

£100 to £1000
  • Alec Dickson Trust
  • Princes Trust Development award
£1000 to £5000
  • Greggs foundation
  • Santander Community Plus Fund
  • Noel Buxton Trust
£10,000 plus
  • Football Foundation
  • Santander Central fund
  • Bernard Sunley Charitable Foundation
Good luck

Heather

Alec Dickson Trust

If you are under 30 and living in the UK, involved in volunteering or running a project in your local community, and you have found it difficult to find funding for your idea, then you can apply to the Alec Dickinson Trust.

Applications for grants, not normally in excess of £500, are invited from individuals aged 30 and under, or from small groups of young people who believe their actions to be in pursuit of the aims of the Trust.  Trustees will meet twice a year to consider applications.

Please note that it is highly unlikely that applications from young people embarking on organised gap year projects overseas or requesting a grant for college/university course fees will match with the Trusts’ funding criteria.

A range of projects can be considered as long as they have a defined start and end date and support people in need such as disabled or suffering chronic illness, living in poverty, voluntary carers, homeless, isolated older people.  Support is more likely to be given to organisations that have Greggs shops or premises nearby.  The maximum grant that can be given is £2,000.

Community Plus grants of up to £5,000 are available for small local charities or local projects of national charities with funding available to cover salaries, equipment or materials.  Grants must directly help disadvantaged people in your local area.   The scheme is designed to be quick and simple to use and nominations can be made by charities as well as Santander customers and staff.  Just visit any Santander branch and complete a Community Plus Nomination, and drop the completed form into your local branch.

There are no closing dates, and entries will be considered by a panel of staff drawn from across the region once every two months.  Successful charities will be notified within two months of submitting their nomination.  If you have not heard from us within two months, then you have been unsuccessful, but you are free to apply again at any time.

Noel Buxton Trust – Family Grant
(from j4B Community Funding website)

The focus of this grand is families experiencing domestic violence.  Trustees recognise that problematic relationships between adults is at the heart of the most serious difficulties experienced by parents and their children.  Violence in the home is damaging to everyone, but Trustees  particularly acknowledge that there is a pervasive impact on children, and one that can affect them into adulthood.  Trustees will consider projects that work with survivors and/or perpetrators of domestic violence.

The Trustees will consider applications for recurrent funding over several years, and for core running costs.  Unfortunately, the Trustees are not able to accept appeals for work in women’s or men’s refuges because of limited funds.

The maximum grant is £5,000 per year for up to three years.  Applications can be made at any time, but it can take up to six months to assess an application.

For further information on the criteria used to assess applications and how to apply, please go to the website at  Noel Buxton Trust

Football Foundation

The Foundation’s Facilities Scheme provides grants over £100,000 for building or refurbishing large-scale grassroots facilities, such as changing pavilions and playing surfaces for community benefit, with money provided by the FA and the Government (via Sport England) and delivered by the foundation.

For details on the projects that the Scheme will support, and the type of facilities they will provide money for, go to the  Football Foundation Funding Scheme website.  The Applying for Funding area of the website is split into sections to provide support on every step of your project, from pre-application advice to maximising participation at your facilities.

All applications must have security of tenure either by freehold or leasehold.  A minimum of 25 years security of tenure is required by leasehold.

Santander- Central Fund

The Central Fund offers grants of up to £10,000 for up to £10,000 for organisations with charitable status for projects within the UK.  Grants must meet one or more of both our charitable priorities:  Education & Training or Financial Capability – and must directly help disadvantaged people.  All funding is for one-off donations and we do not offer multi-year funding.  Capital grants are available to buy tangible items such as equipment or training materials, and revenue grants are also available to fund project costs such as sessional worker fees, salaries, room hire or other costs incurred in the delivery of charitable priorities.

If you are unsuccessful, you can re-apply at any time.  However if you are not successful, we would not expect you to apply the following year.  For example, if you are successful in gaining a grant in 2013, we would NOT expect you to apply again until 2015 at the earliest.
