The Alec Dickson Trust supports young people who are able to demonstrate that through volunteering or community service they can enhance the lives of others, particularly those most marginalised by society. 

Applications for grants, not normally in excess of £500, are invited from individuals aged 30 and under or from small groups of young people who believe their actions to be in pursuit of the aims of the Trust.
No deadline. Trustees will meet twice a year to consider applications.

Funder: The Big Lottery Youth in Focus
Amount:  £500,000 to £1,000,000

Funding targets specific groups:
·         Young carers – helping young people between the ages of 15 and 25 to be heard and get better access to practical advice and services which can support their day to day lives
·         Young people leaving care – supporting young people between the ages of 15 and 25 so they get better access to education, housing, healthcare and employment advice and services
·         Young people leaving youth offender institutions – helping young people between the ages of 15 and 25 to develop their life skills and get better access to services, particularly young men with learning difficulties and young women.

Funder: The Arts Council
Amount:  £1,000 to £100,000

For activities carried out over a set period and which engage people in arts activities, and help artists and arts organisations carry out their work.

Grants can cover activities lasting up to three years.  In special circumstances, the Arts Council can assess applications for grants over £100,000 for more major projects, for which you can apply only if you receive a letter from them agreeing to this beforehand. 
Continuous programme.

This is a continuous programme, but new, improved materials may be introduced occasionally, so before sending in your application, please check you have the latest version.  You can do this by visiting the Arts Council website.
Funder: D McPhail Charitable Settlement
Amount:  £2,000

Grants for voluntary organisations that support the elderly or young, and those who are disabled or sick.

Most grants are for £2,000, with a small number of larger grants made.  Each year, about 15 small grants are made, and many of the granted organisations have an existing relationship with the trust, but new applications are welcome.

Funder: The Rayne Foundation
Amount:  Average £13,000

The Foundation makes grants to organisations that aim to ‘build bridges’ by increasing tolerance or reducing conflict and exclusion, and work in the arts, education, health and medicine and social welfare and development.  Grants can be made for capital and revenue costs.

To be eligible, your project needs to meet six aims:
·         It can have wider than just local application or is of national importance
·         It helps the most vulnerable or disadvantaged
·         It provides direct benefits to people and communities
·         It tackles neglected causes
·         It brings in additional funding and encourages the involvement of other organisations
·         It strives to achieve excellence.

There is a two stage application process.  Stage One applications are accepted at any time, and the Foundation will contact you if they want you to complete a Stage Two application form. 

Funder:  J Paul Getty Jnr Charitable Trust
Amount:  Up to £250,000
Use:

Grants for registered charities working with young people, local communities and homeless people. Project and capital costs can be funded.

The Trust will consider funding a range of projects, including work that:
·         Improves the prospects of young people
·         Improves the treatment of refugees and asylum seekers
·         Integrates different social and ethnic groups
·         Makes a lasting difference to people with substance misuse problems
·         Helps homeless people
·         Nurtures artistic talent of the highest quality.

Decisions on applications can take up to six months, although if you apply for less than £5,000, you could get a decision sooner than that.
