Apprenticeship and Volunteers Opportunities

This is an exciting time to join YMCA Somerset Coast and be part of the challenges and opportunities of a rapidly developing and growing organisation. We are looking for highly motivated Apprentices and Volunteers to work across our site in Bridgwater and Weston-super-Mare.

What is an Apprenticeship?

An Apprenticeship is a structured work-based training programme consisting of workplace learning, formal off the job training and the opportunity to practice and embed new skills in a real work context.  Apprenticeships provide valuable hands on experience and technical knowledge, along with functional and personal skills required for career progression. 

Apprenticeship duration:18 – 24 months
Start Date:April 2014
Hours:30 hours per week

OPPORTUNITIES:

Apprenticeship in Food and Beverage Service

You will learn all aspects of food safety and hygiene; how to give customers a positive impression of yourself and the organisation; serving food, alcohol and beverages at table; preparing and cleaning the café areas for service and how to deal with payments and customer complaints.

You will need:
• Team skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
 Punctual and reliable.
 Excellent interpersonal skills.

Administration Assistant/Front of House Receptionist

You will be dealing with clients and colleagues face-to-face or on the telephone; word processing of correspondence and other documents; storage, archiving and filing of digital and physical information; handling petty cash and banking; keeping accurate financial records and using spreadsheets. Making reservations and answering queries

You will need to be:
 Able to use IT equipment and systems
 A confident communicator
 Ability to prioritise
 Good Interpersonal skills

Apprenticeship in Professional Cookery

This busy role will enable you to learn all aspects of working in a professional kitchen. How to prepare and cook meat, fish, poultry, vegetable and dessert dishes, sauces, soups and pasta from a range of cuisines, using professional catering equipment. You will also learn about nutrition, how to put together healthy eating plans and how to plan menus for different occasions and to different budgets.

You will need:
 Team skills
 Ability to remain calm under pressure
 Punctual, reliable

Apprenticeship in Fitness

You will be required in this role to engage and lead people in Fitness related activity. You must have a passion for inspiring people and be an excellent face to face person. You will learn the operations of Fitness Suites and Classes, in terms of delivery, best practice and from a financial point of view

You will need to be: 
 A confident communicator
 Ability to prioritise
 Good Interpersonal skills

Apprenticeship in Youthwork and Youth Activities

Working alongside the YMCA’s youth team you will take a key role in helping young people to develop, being able to signpost to relevant services and provide support when needed. This post allows for inputs in a traditional youthwork setting but also within an exciting outdoor setting, giving you space to widen your experience and increase opportunities for young people.

You will need: 
 Team skills
 Ability to remain calm under pressure
 Punctual, reliable

Volunteers

Across all YMCA Somerset Coast sites volunteers are invaluable, without the support of volunteers we would be unable to offer the breadth of activities we do. We require volunteers across all of our work from Administration to Reception to Café’s to Nightstop Hosts, if you have a spare hour or two in the week please get in touch.
