Funding opportunities for activity providers and commissioners

Funder: Variety Youth Club Grant

For funding youth club organisations that work with disadvantaged young people between the ages of 8 and 18.

Funding rounds occur approximately four times a year, and eligible expenditure includes improvements to club premises, the purchase of equipment and funding for facilities.
Funder: Monument Trust -The Sainsbury Family Charitable Trusts

Health and Community Care including the sexual health of young people.

Arts and Heritage including arts, architectural and environmental projects of national or regional importance, including galleries, museums and historic houses and gardens.
Proposals are particularly welcome for cultural projects which will make a major contribution to improving economically depressed areas. 

Criminal Justice: including prisoners’ re-settlement, advice and mentoring, and alternatives to custody.

Funder: The Co-operative Community Fund

Available to voluntary, self-help, co-operative and not-for-profit organisations throughout the UK for projects that fulfil a community need.  Applicants do not have to be charities, but projects must have a charitable purpose. 

Funding is available for projects that:
Address a community issue
Provide a long-term benefit to the community
Support co-operative values and principles
Ideally be innovative in its approach

Applicants can apply for anything from equipment to event costs, help towards rent or fixtures, sport or computer equipment.

Funder: The Mall’s Fountain Charity Fund

Small local charities and voluntary community groups, where a small amount of money can make a difference, are eligible to apply.

Applicants must be based and working within a 25 mile radius of the Mall at Cribbs Causeway, including Weston-super-Mare and Newport to the west, Stroud to the north, Chippenham to the east, and Shepton Mallet to the south.


The next round is expected to open to applications in January 2014 with a deadline in March 2014.

Funder: Ashworth Charitable Trust

This Trust awards grants for registered charities in the UK undertaking charitable activities, primarily those supporting humanitarian causes.

The Trustees meet twice a year, in May and November.  Applications need to be submitted by the middle of March or the middle of September respectively.

Funder: Jean Sainsbury Animal Welfare Trust

Grants are available for projects or activities which benefit and protect animals, relieve the suffering of animals, address the conservation of wildlife or encourage a greater understanding of animals.

Funder: Avon and Somerset Police Crime Commissioner Community Action Fund

Funding is intended to enable communities to come together and tackle issues in their local area relating to the priorities set out in the Avon and Somerset Police and Crime Plan which can be found on the Avon and Somerset Police and Crime Commissioner’s website

The priorities are to:
Reduce the Impact of anti-social behaviour in local communities
Tackle domestic and sexual violence, particularly violence towards women and children
Prevent and reduce burglary and fear of burglary in local areas
Ensure victims are at the heart of the criminal justice system


Funding is open to local voluntary and community groups, and registered charities based and working in the Avon and Somerset Police Force area.

Funder: Anton Jurgens Charitable Trust

For registered charities working with the most vulnerable people in society.

Apply in April or August in order to be considered at the June and October Trustee meetings.

Funder: Trusthouse Charitable Foundation

The large grant scheme offers between £10,000 and £30,000 for capital appeals (for example, new buildings or renovations). 

The small grant scheme offers between £5,000 and £10,000 for revenue costs (for example, salaries or core costs) or for capital costs.

The fast track scheme offers grants of less than £5,000 for revenue costs (for example, salaries or core costs) or for capital costs.


The Trustees meet four times a year to assess applications – in January, April, July and October.  To be considered for a particular meeting, your application needs to be received at least eight weeks in advance.

Funder: RBS Inspiring Enterprise Funding

Organisations in the UK which help young people or women to start up and succeed in business.

To be eligible, applicants must be based and operating in the UK, formally constituted, operating on a non-profit distributing basis and have a track record of either providing enterprise support to women or to young people.

Applications are expected to cover a variety of structured programmes in areas such as: business basics, skills and knowledge development, mentoring, peer support and a range of other ideas that will help build and develop the skills to allow more young people and women to start up and succeed in business.

The provisional dates for Inspiring Youth in Enterprise are:

Round 4: 20 January 2014 to 31 January 2014 (noon).
Round 5: 30 June 2014 to 11 July 2014 (noon).

Funder: Quartet Community Foundation / Sport Relief Community Cash

Quartet Community Foundation has recently opened a new grants programme in partnership with Comic Relief and 3 other Community Foundations in the west of England.

Groups eligible to apply for the Sport Relief Community Cash grants programme need to:
Be working in a disadvantaged or deprived area within the specified boundaries
Be a small local group with an income of less than £100,000, run by local people
Have limited access to other sources of income

Examples of the type of activities funded:
Parent & toddler Groups
Dad & lad groups
Equipment and material for sports groups
Community festivals
Cross generational work
Sport Tournaments / competition costs
Lunch clubs
Running costs for self help groups
Committee and volunteer / staff training
Hire of sports facilities


The deadline for application submissions is 9am Tuesday 4th March 2014.

Applications must be made through Quartet Community Foundation.
