Funding and grants

A couple of grants that have come to my attention...

BBC Children in Need (UK)
BBC Children in Need has announced that they are making changes to their grant making programme.  As a result, the 15th October deadline will be the last one until Spring 2013. 
Under the existing programme. BBC Children in Need provides grants for up to three years to not for profit organisations working with disadvantaged young people aged 18 or under.  Eligible organisations can apply for Small Grants of £10,000 or less per year for up to three years and for Main Grants of over £10,000 per year for up to three years.  Funding is available to organisations (including schools) that work with young people who are suffering from:
    • Illness
    • Distress
    • Abuse or neglect
    • Are disabled
    • Have behavioural or psychological difficulties
    • Are living in poverty or situations of deprivation.

Money for Life Challenge (UK)
The Lloyds Banking Group is inviting young people to enter its Money for Life Challenge.  The Money for Life Challenge is a national competition to find the most innovative ways that young people can improve their money management skills and those of their community.  The Challenge is open to young people between 16 and 24 years old and in further education, work based learning, adult community learning or a training organisation.  Young people can apply for one of 250 grants of up to £500 to run a money management project.   The best projects from each nation will win a donation to charity, shopping vouchers plus an all expense paid trip to London to attend the UK Grand Final!
The closing date for entering the challenge is the 23rd November 2012.

Sport England’s Protecting Playing Fields Programme (England)
Sport England has announced round 4 of their Protecting Playing Fields Programme (PPF) will re-open for applications on the 12th November 2012. 
Applications can be submitted by organisations such as voluntary or community organisations, local authorities, sports clubs, playing field associations, charities and schools. PPF is seeking to support projects that help communities maximise the sporting benefits of playing field land. Grants of between £20,000 and £50,000 available to provide new playing fields, bring into use disused playing fields or improve existing playing fields in order to establish and/or host a community club-schools link. All local authority and school based projects will require partnership funding.
The closing date for applications will be the 7th January 2013.

Homelessness Transition Fund (England)
Homeless Link which represents organisations working with the homeless has announced that its the Homelessness Transition Fund Main Grants Programme is now open for applications. 
The Main Grants programme aims to help protect and enhance essential services for single homeless people, especially those helping rough sleepers and support them in becoming sustainable. The Fund provides grants of up to £200,000 over two years to support the Government's ambition to end rough sleeping by rolling out the No Second Night Out standard and other innovations.  Homeless Link also provide a Small Grants programme.  Through the Small Grants Programme organisations can apply for grants of up to £25,000 to support their organisational development.  The Small Grants programme is an ongoing programme with no fixed closing date. The Fund is open to voluntary organisations and social enterprises that deliver front-line homelessness services and are affected by reductions in public spending.  Priority is given to organisations that spend more than 50% of their income on addressing single homelessness. 
The closing date for application is 12 noon on the 12th October 2012.

Funding to Support European Youth Organisations and Networks (UK)
The European Commission has issued a new call for proposals to support Youth organisations that are active at European Level.  The support will take the form of an operating grant for youth organisations that through their permanent, usual and regular activities contribute to the objectives of the ‘Youth in action’ programme.  These activities must help encourage young people to participate as citizens in public life, in society and in the development and implementation of European cooperation actions in the broadly defined field of youth. The total budget available is €800,000 and eligible organisations can apply for a grant of  up to €35,000.  To be eligible for funding applicants need to be either an umbrella organisation or an informal network operating in at least 8 eligible countries.
The closing date for applications is 12 noon on the 15th November 2012.
