Community group secure £21,500 funding for innovative activities for young people

The children and young people of Nailsea, Wraxall and Tickenham will have the opportunity to develop a wide range of new leisure activities thanks to a £21,500 Innovation Grant from North Somerset Council.
Karl Day, Chairperson of this volunteer group, Community Opportunities in Nailsea (COIN), was delighted with the award.  “We see this as an important opportunity for our young people.  We know that increased participation improves life chances through increased confidence and the development of practical skills that directly improve employability opportunities.”
We are very fortunate that a range of successful activities already exist in Nailsea and the surrounding area.  The additional funding is directly targeting gaps in the provision as identified by young people.
We would like to commission a partner to work with us in conducting a needs assessment with young people, and helping with the development of ideas that come from that assessment.
We also want to commission providers who could develop community projects that will engage and inspire young people and gain participation from them and their families.
Finally, we would like to encourage volunteering and develop an ambassador and young leader programme. We have funds to help with coach / volunteer training costs so if you belong to a group that would like to apply for funding to support these outcomes or would like to join the committee please contact Karl Day at coi.nailsea@btconnect.com
