Newsletter from the Disabled Children's Daycare team

Gill Stokes, Daycare Development Coordinator:

Hello to ALL my contacts; club organisers, coordinators, development workers, colleagues etc.

Below is the latest, quite brief, newsletter.

I am intending to send out a larger (and better presented!) newsletter at the end of January. I would like to include information about as many opportunities for children, young people and families as possible. If you have any information that you think I should share, or if you know of a really good club/organisation that our children/ young people/ families would enjoy, then

I would really appreciate hearing from you by the beginning of January.
Ideally, I would like to allocate a short paragraph to each article, with contact numbers if families would like further information.

I would also be very happy to support you in making access to any social/ leisure opportunities a positive experience for everyone. Please do contact me if I can be of any assistance.

It has been a pleasure to meet with, work with, support & visit lots of you during 2013 (many more than I have been able to include in this newsletter) and I really look forward to continuing and developing even more in and with the local communities in 2014.

Kind regards & good wishes for Christmas,
Gill

From: Gill Stokes     01275 882905     07743 329 411      gill.stokes@n-somerset.gov.uk

I’d really like to know about any clubs or activities that YOU enjoy and benefit from.
If you (children, young people and parents, carers and those who run or support clubs) could email me a few lines by the beginning of January, then our next newsletter could be even more informative. Hope to see or hear from you sometime soon
Gill

Evaluation and feedback from summer playschemes
Thank you to those of you who have returned these; they really do matter for future planning of future holiday provision. There’s still time to email your views.
To those who didn’t use Holiday Fun:
PLEASE could you send me some feedback on your experiences of other clubs that your child may have attended? If you didn’t have any support during the summer holidays, PLEASE tell me if this was your choice, or how best we could provide some appropriate support for you & your child.

Your room at St. Barnabas – Vicki’s Place
The room, funded from government ‘Aiming High’ money has now been renamed, in memory of Vicki Shaw, a wonderful mum who did so much to support all of our families, and particularly this resource centre. We now have quite a few new, parent led groups booking to use the room on a regular basis, including birthday parties. The BIBIC event, held here recently, proved extremely popular. Supportive Parents sessions also run here regularly, along with Ups & Downs.
I continue to display a range of information and flyers that may be of interest to you. If you come across any information which you would like to share, please do send it to me here & I’ll circulate/ advertise it.

I recently attended a fantastic evening at Redcliffe Bay Guides in Portishead, to see Rebecca give a one hour talk on Maketon to about twenty five fellow guides, as part of her Duke of Edinburgh award. It was a privilege to be a small part of this & reminded me that LOTS of our Buddies are used to support children & young people to access these uniformed organisations and their support is highly valued by all concerned. Please do contact me if your son/daughter would benefit from joining a group in your locality.
