The 'Grow Your Charity Online' initiative will provide free training and tools for smaller charities across the country. It comprises an online learning hub, specialised training, workshops and live events.

As part of the campaign, Google will host a regular series of online educational events, allowing charities from across the UK to join advice sessions remotely, while Google UK employees will dedicate a percentage of their work time towards the project, by volunteering their expertise at workshops over the year.

Adobe Youth Voices Aspire Awards
The international Adobe Youth Voices Aspire Awards celebrate the work of young media artists from around the world by recognising talent in media production.

The competition recognises projects that best illustrate the programme's 'Create with Purpose' philosophy. Winning submissions demonstrate the imagination, talent and skill of young people in and out of school, from across the world, using media to communicate their ideas, exhibit their potential, and take action in their communities.

Winners' prizes include Adobe software and Samsung Tabs, plus a financial donation of between US$500 and US$2,000 to a charity of choice.

The Awards are open to participants from young people aged 13-19. All submissions must be submitted by an educator who has worked directly with young people on their project. The educator must be participating in Adobe Youth Voices, either through Adobe Youth Voices partnerships or the Adobe Youth Voices Essentials programme. Winning projects will be announced in June

The deadline to submit content produced in 2013, including all Adobe Youth Voices Aspire Awards UNICEF Challenge entries, is 19th April 2013.

Regional Growth Fund
The Regional Growth Fund (RGF) is a £2.6 billion fund operating from 2011 to 2016. It supports projects and programmes that lever private sector investment to create economic growth and sustainable employment. The first 3 rounds allocated £2.4 billion which will leverage over £13 billion of private sector investment and create or safeguard over 500,000 jobs. Round 4 is now open for applications and will allocate a further £350m.

The Fund will provide a mixture of direct support for private sector investments and private public partnerships. All projects should lever private sector investment for long term growth and private sector employment. The criteria for RGF asks bids to show that they would:
  • Create additional sustainable private sector growth
  • Rebalance the economy in those areas currently dependent on the public sector not otherwise go ahead without support from the Regional Growth Fund
  • Offer value for money
  • Be State Aid compliant
Funding is available until 2016. All potential bids should take into account that they will need to draw down the funding by 31 March 2016. This is a relatively short time frame and projects/programmes need to be high quality and ‘shovel ready’ - ideally ready to start immediately.

The deadline for receipt of completed applications is 12 noon on 20 March 2013.

Applications and supporting evidence should be sent to rgfround4applications@bis.gsi.gov.uk

Catalyst Heritage: Building Fundraising Capacity
The Catalyst grants initiatives form part of a broader partnership initiative between the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF), DCMS and Arts Council England (ACE). It aims to encourage more private giving to culture and heritage, and to build the capacity and skills of cultural and heritage organisations to fundraise from private donors, corporate sources, trusts and foundations.

Umbrella grants of £100,000 to £500,000
Umbrella grants are available to umbrella bodies providing support services for heritage organisations. Projects will deliver a range of capacity building services, learning and networking opportunities to enable heritage organisations to increase the funding they receive from private sources, such as individual and corporate donors, trusts and foundations.

The next deadline is 23rd March 2013.

Hedley Foundation
The main objective of the Trustees' grant-making is to assist and encourage development and change. It follows that most grants will be of capital or one-off nature, but the Trustees sometimes agree to help fund the introduction of new and innovative projects with a series of up to 3 annual grants. Few grants exceed £5,000 and most of them go to charities where they can make an impact. They do not support large or national appeals.

Applications are only accepted from registered charities working with young people, their education, recreation, support, training, health and welfare.
Subsidiary objectives include disabled people and the terminally ill and provision of specialist equipment and support for carers. Grants are for specific projects only, mostly one-off, but no core revenue, salary or transport funding. The Foundation makes a limited number of recurring grants for up to three years.

The next deadline is the 13th March

Sport England - Places People Play - Inspired Facilities
Places People Play will be available to breathe new life into tired facilities that can be unattractive to sports participants, expensive to run and difficult to maintain, putting these clubs right back at the heart of their local communities. There will also be money available to convert existing buildings into venues that are suitable for grassroots sport.
Typical investments might be:
  • A sprung floor that converts an unused hall into a local multi-sport facility
  • New changing rooms, so away teams no longer need to change in the car park
  • New floodlights that mean a facility can be used for many more hours of the day.
At least £35 million of the funding will go to community and voluntary organisations, through grants of between £20,000 and £50,000. The remaining money will be open to a wider group of organisations, including councils and schools, with grants of up to £150,000 available. Applicants whose project will benefit disadvantaged young people will also be invited to apply for funding from the Thomas Cook's Children's Charity from August this year.

Eligible improvements must fall under the following headings:
  • Building modernisation
  • Outdoor sports lighting
  • Outdoor sports surfaces and AdiZones
  • Modular buildings
  • Sports equipment
Round 4 will open on 4th March 2013 when the deadline for this round will be announced. Tel: 08458 508 508 E-mail fundingsupport@sportengland.org

  • Cultural Understanding
  • Fulfilling Potential
  • Environment
Not-for-profit organisations (not individuals) can apply for R&D funding to scope a new idea which enables them to work together with other organisations or experts outside their usual practice, or to enable them to undertake active research into areas they would not normally have the time or money to explore.

The funds available are modest in scale and competition is likely to be strong. As a guide, it is expected that grants will average between £10,000 and £25,000.

Initial Enquiries can be submitted at any time of the year but please allow at least three months between submission and the proposed starting date.

Jephcott Charitable Trust
The Jephcott Charitable Trust provides funds for specific projects or part of a project where successful monitoring can be achieved and which the Trustees consider suitable.

Youth Music Programme
The Youth Music Programme is the name for Youth Music’s grant-making process. Its main aim is to support music-making opportunities for children and young people in England and, in particular, for those in challenging circumstances.

The Programme provides funding for organisations enabling them to transform the musical experiences of young people; encouraging their talent, building their confidence, and ensuring an effective and sustainable youth music sector which serves the evolving needs of young people.

At the heart of the Youth Music Programme is a commitment to achieving positive outcomes for children and young people and their long-term engagement in music making.

They are particularly interested in funding projects which include children and young people who are in challenging circumstances such as social, economic, or cultural disadvantages.

It is an aim to also use the funding to advance the learning and development of all children aged 0-5, by ensuring universal access to high-quality music-making activities.

They want to ensure that all children and young people with musical talent and potential have opportunities to develop regardless of their background or chosen genre. The next deadline is 27th March 2013.
